An In-Depth Look at Furnace Selection
Not every home needs the same furnace, and that's a good thing. The right choice depends on your house, your habits, and what you actually want out of your heating system. Here's a detailed look at what we walk through with homeowners considering furnace installation in Louisville, KY.
System Size
Bigger isn't better; correctly sized is better. An oversized new furnace system cycles on and off too frequently, wearing out parts faster and leaving your home with uneven temperatures. An undersized one runs constantly and still can't keep up on the coldest days.
Our furnace installers in Louisville, KY, calculate proper sizing based on your home's square footage, ceiling height, window placement, and layout, not just a generic rule of thumb.
Gas or Electric
Both are solid options, and the right one depends on what's available at your home and what matters most to you. Gas furnaces tend to heat faster and cost less to run in our region, while electric furnaces offer a simpler install where gas lines aren't already in place. We'll lay out the honest tradeoffs for your specific situation instead of pushing one option.
Efficiency Ratings
A furnace's efficiency rating tells you how much of the fuel it uses actually turns into heat for your home, versus what's lost in the process. Higher-efficiency units cost more upfront but can meaningfully lower your monthly energy costs over time. We'll help you weigh that upfront cost against your long-term energy goals.
Home Layout and Insulation
A newer, well-insulated home holds heat differently than an older one with drafty windows or minimal attic insulation. Layout matters too. Homes with multiple stories, additions, or finished basements often have rooms that heat unevenly with the wrong setup. We factor all of this in, because the best furnace on paper isn't the best furnace for a home it doesn't match.
Budget
New furnace installation in Louisville, KY, is a real investment, and we believe you deserve options at different price points, not just the most expensive equipment we offer. We'll walk through what fits your budget now and what might save you money down the road, including available financing.
Comfort Goals
Some homeowners want the lowest possible bill. Others want to eliminate hot and cold spots, or a quieter system, or something that pairs well with a smart thermostat. Tell us what comfort means to you, and we'll help you find the new HVAC system that delivers it.
Do You Need a New Cooling System, Too?
If your furnace is on its way out, it's worth asking whether your cooling system is close behind. Heating and cooling equipment installed around the same time tends to reach the end of its lifespan around the same time, too.
If your system is original to your home or has needed frequent repairs, replacing both together can simplify the process and may qualify you for additional savings or financing options.

New Furnace Installation vs Furnace Replacement
If you've been searching for furnace installation near me, you may have noticed that "installation" and "replacement" often get used interchangeably. That's not a mistake; the terms genuinely overlap.
What Is Furnace Installation?
New furnace installation typically refers to putting in a heating system where one didn't exist before, or upgrading to a different type of heating system entirely. This might mean adding heat to a space that never had it, or moving from one heating method (like a heat pump or baseboard heaters) to another as part of a larger home comfort upgrade.
What Is Furnace Replacement?
Furnace replacement in Louisville, KY, usually describes swapping out an aging or failing unit for a new one, often in the same location with similar setup. But even a straightforward replacement can involve real installation work: updated ductwork, better airflow design, or a completely different furnace size and efficiency rating than what you had before.
Which One Do I Need?
The truth is, most every heating installation in Louisville, KY, falls somewhere in between. Few jobs are purely "unplug the old, plug in the new." Whether you're getting a new furnace installed for the first time, upgrading an outdated system, or replacing one that's finally given out, our team treats each job with the same care and attention to detail.
When you're ready to install a new furnace, our furnace installers in Louisville, KY, will walk you through what your specific situation calls for, no confusing terminology required. As a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, we also offer Carrier furnace installation for homeowners who want dependable, high-efficiency equipment backed by manufacturer support. Whatever you call it, we'll make sure it's done right.
When to Plan Furnace Installation
The best time to plan furnace installation in Louisville, KY, is before you actually need it. Furnaces tend to fail during the coldest stretches of winter, exactly when you least want to be without heat and most likely to face longer wait times for service.
If your system is aging, has needed frequent furnace repairs, or is no longer keeping up with your comfort needs, fall is an ideal time to plan ahead. It gives our furnace installers time to properly size your system, discuss your options, and get everything installed before temperatures drop.
That said, if your furnace fails unexpectedly, we're here for that, too. Emergency installations happen, and we'll move quickly to get your home warm again, any time of year.
We Take the Stress Out of Furnace Installation
Choosing a new furnace doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. At Chapman Heating and Cooling, we’re here to be your guide, not your salesperson. We simplify the process, explain the options, and handle the heavy lifting so you can enjoy a warm, worry-free home.
Whether you’re upgrading for better efficiency or replacing a system that just can’t keep up, we’re here to help you make the right decision for your home, your budget, and your future.

Furnace Installation FAQs
When should I install a new furnace?
The best time to install a new furnace is before the system breaks and an emergency forces the decision. For planned installations, it’s usually best to complete them in fall, before cold weather arrives. Watch for warning signs like frequent repairs, rising energy bills, uneven heating, or a system older than 15 years. Planning ahead gives you time to compare options and avoid being without heat during Louisville's coldest days.
How do I choose the right furnace size?
The right furnace size depends on your home's square footage, layout, insulation, and window placement, not a one-size-fits-all formula. An oversized furnace cycles too often and wears out faster, while an undersized one struggles to keep up in cold weather. Chapman Heating and Cooling’s furnace installers in Louisville, KY, perform a full assessment of your home before recommending a size.
How long does furnace installation take?
Furnace installation in Louisville, KY, usually takes one full day, though more complex jobs involving ductwork changes or system upgrades may take longer. Factors like your home's layout, the type of furnace you're installing, and any necessary electrical or gas line work can affect the timeline. We'll give you a clear estimate before work begins.
Is furnace installation different from furnace replacement?
Furnace installation and furnace replacement often overlap, but they aren't always the same thing. Installation can mean adding heat to a space for the first time or upgrading to a different system type, while replacement usually means swapping an old unit for a new one in the same setup. Many jobs involve elements of both.
Can a new furnace lower my heating bills?
Yes, a new furnace can lower your heating bills, especially if you're replacing an older, less efficient unit. Higher-efficiency systems convert more fuel into usable heat, reducing waste and monthly costs over time. Actual savings depend on your current system's age, efficiency rating, and your home's insulation.
Do you install Carrier furnaces?
Yes, Chapman Heating and Cooling is a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, offering Carrier furnace installation for homeowners who want reliable, high-efficiency equipment backed by manufacturer support. Our NATE-certified technicians are trained to install Carrier systems correctly for long-term performance.
Is financing available for furnace installation?
Yes, financing is available with approved credit for furnace installation in Louisville, KY, which can make it easier to invest in a new system without paying the full cost upfront. Our team can walk you through available options based on your budget and comfort goals.
What should I do after a new furnace is installed?
After a new furnace is installed, schedule regular furnace maintenance to keep it running efficiently and protect your warranty. Replace air filters on schedule, keep the area around the unit clear, and contact us with any questions about your new system's operation. Routine seasonal tune ups help catch small issues before they become costly repairs.
Our whole house humidifier was not working and we called Chapman Heating to check on it. Our technician, Michael, checked our furnace and humidifier and determined that the furnace had a part that was not working properly. He had the part ordered. He returned when the part was available and installed the part and determined humidifier was working properly but the thermostat was not set to operate the humidifier. He reset the thermostat and the humidifier is working perfectly. Michael was very efficient and knowledgeable and made the needed repairs to our system. His work was 5 star. I would give him and Chapman 10 stars if possible.
Jeremy and Alan were both great. We had a difficult situation that needed to be addressed and I appreciate their professional and pleasant problem-solving skills. Jeremy has been here before and always been very good at listening to concerns and has incredible work ethics! After being very frustrated for a few months, it was nice to see our concern being addressed and issues corrected.
Michael was the most patient and knowledgeable service tech from beginning to end. He was polite and courteous and put on booties over his shoes everytime he entered my home. He took the time to show and explain things to me in a way I’d understand. We wouldn’t call anyone else to service our HVAC.
